May 4th is the birthday of legendary artist and activist Keith Haring. This year, Keith would have been 62, which would still be such a young age for such a pivotal figure in street culture, graffiti, and poltical art; he was, along with Basquiat, a bridge for the contemporary art world to understand the prevailing street culture scene of the time. Today, we wanted to share some subway drawings Keith made in NYC in the late 1970s and early 1980s, that grey but vital area between graffiti and street art, and in many ways, the entry point for so many of us to get into art. Most of these images have been shared on our website before, but here they are compiled from our archives.
