Cat Cult @ As Issued, Costa Mesa

May 22, 2014

This Saturday in Costa Mesa, As Issued will present an exhibition of new work by the Los Angeles-based street collective, Cat Cult, and for you furry feline freaks this is a prerequisite! Cat Cult is a collective that embraces the varying iconic identities that the cat has held across history and plays upon it in fun and ironic ways throughout the urban environment. Throughout time, the cat has consistently occupied a place in the imagination of various cultures, spanning ancient Egyptian worship, the occultist black cat, the contemporary meme LOLCAT, and much more. The mythology surrounding cats defies context, giving ample material for Cat Cult to explore. Cat Cult utilizes a variety of variety of mediums including illustration, printmaking, stencils, wheat paste, photography, painting, sewing, and graphic design.

Opening reception is on May 24, 2014 7p.m.

Show runs through June 24, 2014
