Art and Science in The Woods

June 17, 2018

Our recently featured artist Mike Kershnar taught a skateboard and urban art class at Blue Heron Farm outside of Peoria, Illinois for Art and Science In The Woods. Kids got the traditional camp experience of swimming in creeks and picking wild mulberries alongside learning the history of graffiti and learning hand styles, bubble letters, characters, meme murals, and painting on skateboards.

The program allows students to see freight trains rolling by covered in paint and in turn learn the techniques to execute large scale pieces which is quite empowering for the youth. Blue Heron Farm is a wonderful place where many influences and subcultures connect in an uplifting natural environment to create real experiences in the lives of young artists. It's rad to see classes and programs like this, where students get their hands on great mediums, and let their creativity run wild.
