An interview with Hufr

June 29, 2014

Painting since 2003 Hufer is based out of Los Angeles repping NBC and BOS. We got a chance to chat with him recently about how he got started writing graffiti and where he sees the future of graffiti headed.

Introduce yourself what do you write and how did you get started in graffiti?

I write Hufer BOS (Bombing Out Society) NBC (No Body’s Close)

I started writing in 2003. I was introduced to graffiti through skateboarding. I would skate all day with my homies, bus hopping city to city. At that time the metro system had a 5 dollar day pass which gave us access to every inch of the city. Inspiration was everywhere. Long Beach ,Compton, Lynwood, Watts, South Central, Downtown, Midcity, Hollywood. Everywhere I went, I noticed graffiti then my homies started doing it. Soon after it was on.

Who did you look up to coming up in the LA scene?

To be perfectly honest my crew mates-Tank, Skofer, Punch, Evak ,Zroe, Bake, AK47, but besides my crews I would have to say Rick, Nels ,Plek, Provoke, Saber, Zes, and Revok.

Give us a little history on the NBC crew.

NBC was founded in 2000 by a few homies out in Mid-City. They eventually branched out to Long Beach and found me in between. I joined the team in 2004 and never looked back. The creativity in that crew was at a high level. To be on a team with the likes of Drink, Tank, Punch, AK47 and Bemer was a blessing.

Favorite thing to do-tag, throwie, or rock a piece?

Thoughts on the current state of the LA graffiti scene?

Currently there’s a lot of talent in Los Angeles. Guys like Buge, Saute, Ribs, Merch, Agod, and Blah are setting the bar high. LA is always poppin-even the OG'S are getting active. It’s pretty rare to drive around and not see something new and inspiring.

What are some words of wisdom you'd give a youngster coming into the graf game?

No social networking!!!!

Favorite place outside of LA to spray?

San Francisco and Tijuana.

What's a place you want to spray, but haven't gotten a chance to yet?

3 songs that get you pumped up to go out and paint.

Ace Hood-We On Thrice-Deadbolt Nipsey Hussle-Don’t Take Days Off

Where you do see the future of graffiti headed?

Sky’s the limit, so we’ll see. Technology has taken over which has had a huge impact on graffiti and real vandalism in legal matters. But there will always be good ol’ graffiti no matter what. Passion is passion. If you want it, you want it. If you don’t, you don’t. Simple. I want it, so I’ll do everything in my power to make my dreams and ideas a reality. I only wish the same for the rest out there.

Any final words or shout outs you wanna give?

Zroe (RIP) you are my number one inspiration. You give me drive that no one else can. Rest easy brother. Shout out to my Mom, she put up with the most. Shout out to Tekmo, Tyco, Kiwee and Glib I miss y’all,
Boss In Peace. Lastly shout out to my day ones!!! Y’all know who you are. You where there. NL. PEACE.
