Inspired by the fierce force of climate activist Greta Thunberg, the Iranian artists known as Icy and Sot, grabbed the torch of environmental advocacy. Installed in the vast, undulating California desert, Saman and Sasan Oskouei created a searing video installation titled Our House is on Fire.

With the sound of Greta’s voice as a call for action, Icy and Sot built the frame of a typical home, its open door and window frames revealing the landscape of Mother Earth, the universal home we all share and should nurture. In reverse footage, the video chronicles the installation swallowed by frames, crumbling to the ground, creating the hope that those burning pieces of wood will resurrect and rebuild anew. As Greta’s voice sounds out, “I want you to panic. I want you to act as if your house was on fire”, the video reminds us that change is only possible if we take charge and take action.
