Dabs Myla's big Marvelous Expeditions recently opened to a huge response at Thinkspace. The Australian artistic duo have taken full ownership of the gallery with the exhibit centered around an interactive installation created with close friend Greg 'Craola' Simkins that found patrons smiling and enjoying themselves all evening long. Today, they speak with The Yok.
To help keep the party going, we are continuing to showcase the duo's interviews they conducted with 32 of their closest and most inspiring artist friends, all of whom contributed works on identical 16x20 inch panels for the show. 'Marvelous Expeditions' showcases the duo’s love of friends, collegiality, exchange, and the proliferation of vision and variety that thrives alongside constant movement and displacement. These are the exploratory impulses of travel that lead to constant revisions, reconstitutions, influences, and to the indelible encounters that change everything.

Last time you traveled? To where?
February, I Went to Thailand/Burma border to do volunteer art teaching for the little Lotus Project with orphans and refugee's then on to Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia and China.

Planes, Trains or Automobiles?
All of them, chicken buses, twin propeller airplanes and box cars.

Aisle, always, it's a long way to Australia, gotta stretch them legs. Chicken.

What fuels you to keep creating?
Please describe your dream project if time and money were not issues.
Painting large scale walls, in broken neighbour hoods to bring back some pride to the area/volunteer art teaching in impoverished schools and bring all my fav artists and friends with me.
Do you have a favorite item from your studio that you always make sure you take on a trip? For example... reference book, lucky balaclava, favorite brush etc..
Least favorite part of making art? And your favorite part...
Least favourite filling in large areas of flat color. Putting in details/highlights.
If you could collaborate with one artist, living or dead, who would it be?
Ever picked up a hitch hiker?... Have you ever been a hitchhiker?
Yes. Yes in Northern Western Australia i was picked up by a dude, who gave me a splif, which was cool. Until i noticed there where a lot of knives on the back seat which was not. All was well, he said he hunts alot. I got out way before my stop.
Something you wish you would have known 5 years ago?
That I can do it.
