If you had to just pick a random person on the street today and ask them to name ONE artist, we bet that over 50% would say van Gogh. The 19th Century Dutch painter is beyond an artistic icon, so much so that it's hard to imagine thinking about art without thinking about Starry Night, or his Self Portraits, or Sunflowers. In what may be one of the best collaborations of 2018, Vans has partnered up with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam on a collection "utilizing Van Gogh masterpieces across iconic Vans Classics and premium apparel silhouettes, available worldwide August 3."
The Vans x Van Gogh Museum Collection will be available to shop at Vans.com/VanGogh, Vans retail stores and select Vans wholesale accounts. The collection will also be available at vangoghmuseumshop.com and in the museum shop at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam beginning August 3.
As you can see in the galery above, the collection will include a wide variety of Van Gogh works, across apparel and shoes. You have Old Vineyard with Peasant Woman on an Old Skool and a special Classic Slip-On, or Sunflowers on every panel of the Authentic as well as a Sunflower Boyfriends Tee and the Sunflower Hoodie. We have our eye on the skeletal studies on the Classic Slip-On.
From Vans: "Each model from the Vans x Van Gogh Museum collection footwear collection is finished with custom footbed art that mimics Van Gogh’s memorable brush strokes with the Van Gogh Museum and Vans logo lock-up. Each piece from the collection will also include a special hangtag that highlight historical facts behind each piece of Vincent Van Gogh’s art." Vans also notes that "The Van Gogh Museum will dedicate a portion of its profits from this project to the preservation of Vincent van Gogh’s legacy and collection of art; keeping it accessible for future generations."
Next week, Juxtapoz will be in Amsterdam for the kick off of the collection at the Van Gogh Museum. Stay tuned to interviews and features as we get an insdie look at how the collection came to be.
