Maybe you were like us last summer, where you completed the Tom Sachs x Nike obstacle course in NYC for the chance to purchase the coveted, re-released and iconic "Mars Yard 2.0" sneaker that sneaker heads and the art crowd had been drooling over for years. Well, the trip to Mars, Space, or whatever, is back, as Tom Sachs and Nike teamed up for a Nikecraft "Mars Yard Overshoe."
As you know, Sachs has been building these immersive, performative installations revolving around NASA and space for years, and his NikeCraft collborations with Nike have been really fantastic in that they have created a shoe and idea where Nike is now in on the "performative" delivery of the project. The shoes never look anything like a typical Nike release, and Nike allows their brand to be part of the art and experimental idea of performance in new frontiers. As Hypebeast points out about this actuall shoe: "The overshoe contains a pair of Mars Yard 2.0 sneakers stitched into inner layer, covered with waterproof Dyneema material for warmth. The bag is cinched by a tension cord and secured into place with magnetic buckles that can also be rolled down when indoors, allowing the feet to breathe. The winter appropriate shoe is balanced atop a rugged SFB sole unit in icy blue and nicknamed the “March Yard” for the frigid weather in New York during the month."
The Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard Overshoe will retail around $500, and will be released at Dover Street Market in London on Ocotber 11th. A global release will follow.
