Decorated WWII Bomber Jackets

April 10, 2017

Standardized in 1931, the Type A-2 "Bomber Jacket" was worn by U.S. Army Air Forces after they completed basic flight training. The Airmen would decorate the jackets with elaborate embroidery, patches, and even painted artwork. The horsehide leather that made up the jacket's back became a canvas for cartoons, bomb decals, pin-up girls, and other insignias and details.
