As we have reported over the past month, we were down in Miami in early December, South Beach to be exact, for our presenation of Juxtapoz at 25: In Black &White during Miami Art Week. Across town, one of streetwear’s founding brands, XLARGE teamed up with Superchief Gallery in Miami to create a unique experience during Art Week. The Xlarge Block Party was a celebration merging art (with artist Atomik), music, basketball, and streetwear while, contributing to locals, in Liberty City, with a free, all ages, event and resurfaced basketball courts. And this weekend, December 21—22, Superchief Gallery Miami will host a Atomik XLARGE Pop Up Shop at 2450 NW 5th Av from 3—11pm.

As part of the Block Party event, artist and hometown hero Atomik, spent the day signing autographs, creating drawings for fans and even painting a new piece at the courts. XLARGE donated the brand new resurfaced basketball court to the local community, for the citizens of Miami, in hopes to encourage inspiration through sports and art. The crowd, comprised of an eclectic mix of artists, athletes, and the local community, played games to win prizes and enjoyed food & drinks from various vendors, while basketball games ensued.

LiNing showcased the BadFive exhibition basketball games and dunk contests with players from China, US, and local high school all-star teams. Miami Dolphins super fan Gorilla Luke was spotted helping out, and hyping up, the dunk contest. Street Ballers like "Bone Collector” were in attendance playing basketball with the kids.

Many sponsors helped to make the experience possible with craft beer from Concrete Beach Brewery, Natalie’s Orchid Island Orange Juice, Waterloo Sparkling water, and Sailor Jerry rum.  Attendees enjoyed gourmet food trucks Crabman 305, Mr. PB&J, and Azucar Ice cream. Pioneer DJ facilitated sound equipment and also demo’d the newest in technology with aspiring DJs. The night concluded with a special guest appearance from rapper Kcamp and DJ Genius, who rocked the crowd and played basketball, for hours, with the local kids.
