The Peculiar Erotica of Artuš Scheiner

November 06, 2012

These early-twentieth century illustrations by Artuš Scheiner (1863-1938) veer on the strange side. 'Scheiner was a prolific Bohemian artist, whose work was widely published in Czechoslovakia and Austria,' but who remains fairly unknown in the English-speaking world. He is most recognized for his illustrations of Božena Nemcová's The Disobedient Kids and other Czecho-Slovak Fairy Tales (1921), though this strange set of drawings shows that the quaint world of fairytales wasn't the only thing Scheiner was illustrating.
