Liu Hong’s Women

August 16, 2013

Liu Hong’s portraits of the ‘modern’ young women of China covey the new Chinese feminine identity; not in overtly sexual images, but in the non-verbal cues that her portraits exude in their facial features and gestures. As the artist states about her inspiration behind this series: “This is an era that belongs to beautiful women. Their attractive bodies can be seen everywhere. We are living in a world full of all sorts of beauty campaigns which show desire, sexiness, pleasure and fashion. A wish that was seen as shameful a few years ago, has become the way of today’s life.” — Liu Hong
