Dutch designer Mark Sturkenboom debuts “Overgrown,” his series of décor items, thick with a growth of quartz-like crystals. The objects appear as if emerging from an otherworldly forgotten time, abandoned and neglected. His piece “21 Grams: Poetic Justice,” is an elaborate safe, that holds the ashes of a loved one inside a gold and glass tube. The safe also offers space for the mourner to include the signature scent of the deceased, their favorite music, and other mementos.
Sturkenboom’s background is in welding, which he studied in Arnhem. According to the artist, his “work organizes an impossible ephemera.”
