Japanese artist Yusuke Hanai just has the perfect aesthetic to straddle all the perfect mediums and genres. Part skate, surf, bohemian, cartoon, fine art, and fashion, his personas cry out to transform into collectibles. Much of his style comes from being in his 20s and living in San Francisco, and he captures that vibe splendidly in a new wood sculpture (and accompanying wood bottle), DOWN BUT NOT OUT, in collaboration with the good people of Hong Kong studio MEET PROJECT by AllRightsReserved. Although the character and bottle almost have a serious hangout look, Hanai notes that his work portrays a “realistic yet optimistic” outlook on life. The 19” sculpture was made in an edition of 15 (or with wood bottle, in an edition of 200).
