Back in September 2019, coinciding with his solo show at Blum & Poe in Tokyo, Friedrich Kunath released a limited edition print through VogelART which was followed by few other releases, some of which we've covered on Juxtapoz. And being fans of the work, we're excited to see the guru of melancholy pushing the idea of hand-finished unique editions with a new (very) limited edition release.

After the first edition with the German publisher, My Fault, Your Fault, both the artist and VogelART felt like producing another, more special and unique edition. After a February 2020 studio visit, the idea came up that the next edition will be additionally colored with oil, an element that Kunath often uses in his palpable, heavily textured paintings. The year of the pandemic slowed the production a bit, but during his European trip in the summer the artist was able to work on the reproductions made with Archival Pigment-Print on Museum Natural Velvet. He hand-colored all prints mounted on MDF board with a yellow-brown rainbow of oils, as well as wrote the text and had drawn a few other elements like the clouds, additional text, etc.

The thick, pasty-painted rainbows were applied directly from the color tube, recreating the signature elements of his original canvases and making each of the 25 prints unique. The edition needed a 4-month drying period, after which the signed and numbered examples were mounted with a hand-glazed shadow gap frame. With each framed print measuring 77,6 x 61,6 x 3 cm (30.6 x 24.2 x 1.2 in), 25 examples of We‘re Not Here For Long will be available exclusively at vogelARTedition.com from 26th February 2021. —Sasha Bogojev
