Following the strict lockdown measures that took place in France since mid-March, Seth recently announced the release of a limited edition lithograph that resonates strongly during what so many call Uncertain Times. At The Window will be available on his website, seth.fr, today, Friday, 12th of June.
Emblematic of his practice, a child is depicted as the universal symbol of optimism and freedom, and here, a little girl sits longingly, staring outside the window, the walls of her confined space appearing as dark clouds, contrasted with the sunny, turquoise day outside. The window, drawn from jagged spray paint marks, clouds the picture. Is there a brighter future, or is this wishful naiveté? Once again, the French artist invites us to a charismatic composition both bitter and sweet.
This edition will be available in a run of150, each hand-finished by the artist with custom spray paint application. Successfully combining the velvety precision of Idem Paris’s celebrated lithography presses and his spontaneous spray paint gestures, Seth creates a captivating clash of realities in his unmistakable visual language. —Sasha Bogojev
