Charming Baker, the UK artist that was featured in our January 2012 issue, collaborated with famed British fashion designer (he makes a fantastic sunglass, FYI) Paul Smith on Triumph in the Face of Absurdity, a polished cast aluminium bicycle now on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Well, on display through July 29, 2012, so get there now. The work was part of Britain Creates 2012: Fashion + Art Collusion, where leading British fashion designers and visual artists collaborate in a ground-breaking series of works commissioned as part of the London 2012 Festival.
Baker and Smith sat down for this video discussion about the project. Summary: "The piece 'Triumph in the Face of Absurdity' is about life and about how humble your start is in any way. It's not linked with money or finance, it's to do with the fact that if you try hard and dig deep, however small you start, you can do great things... Effort is free of charge!" Designer Sir Paul Smith and artist Charming Baker discuss the piece on which they collaborated for Britain Creates: its
technicalities, concept and relevance to the Olympic year.
