Gallery Vevais has recently released Werkdruck no. 30, a collection of work by San Francisco based photographer Victor Cobo, edited by photo luminary Jock Sturges. With the societal fringe photography of Diane Arbus as an influence and at times beckoning back to some of Nan Goldin's 80's and 90's work, Cobo's work resides somewhere between street and glam at times, with a heavy focus on classical photo surrealism.

Cobo explores the more classic elements of technical film based portraiture through a lens that conveys a fascination with the deviant side of life, the human condition and the examination of individual identity. His stark, high contrast over / under exposure balance testifies to the line walked by many of his subjects, while his lens accentuates a sensitivity to the psychological permeations they project. —Gabe Scott
