The Dinner Party is an investigation into the mysterious narratives of Julie Curtiss' paintings. Surreal and bizarre, Julie creates works that raise questions without an answer. Her images were used as a prompt for Darren Bader, Lauren Groff, Austin Lee, Carmen Maria Machado, Nick Mulgrew, and Legion Seven. The authors were invited to join the 'party' and react to an existing painting, or write a text that the artist reinterpreted in the form of a new painting. The result is a multi-course feast that reflects on some of Julie’s favorite themes: food, nature, the human body and how to transform the quotidian into the unexpected. Published by Spheres Publications in an edition of 500, the book is available for sale on the gallery's website.

The event is located at Anton Kern Gallery and takes place on May 22, between 6-8pm. A discussion between the artist and writer and editor Scott Indrisek will begin promptly at 6:30 pm. Drinks and light snacks will be served.
