Carefully thought-out placement of art supplies, easel, drawing board and light source greatly helps my creative process.\"<\/p>\r\n

\"Many artists see the studio as a vital part of the art itself. Unfortunately, in some cases, an artist\u2019s studio may exceed their own art regarding artistic interest. The studio, as a show place, is important as a focal point for studio visits from important buyers, gallery management, and museum functionaries. Artists over-embellishing and exotically decorating their ateliers goes back in time to the days of Rembrandt.<\/p>\r\n
With the advent of modernist abstraction and action painting, the pursuit of a bohemian French artist\u2019s garret has become quite fashionable. This romantic, mid-twentieth-century cultural ideal has caused thousands of young artists to set up studios in rundown, low-rent, industrial locations. This lifestyle change has practically ended the period of the classical, prototypical artist\u2019s studio featuring the use of an easel, arm pallet, wooden mannequins, dais (the raised platform used to pose nude models) and an artist with goatee, beret and smock.<\/p>\r\n
Now, sizeable amounts of loose paint on the walls, floors, and clothing display evidence that nothing will stand in the way of the artist\u2019s urgent creative mission. However, in my modest studio, I fall short on confirming my artistic enthusiasm\u2014one could probably eat off my floors. Why get paint in one spot accidentally when I\u2019m trying so hard to get it precisely in another?<\/p>\r\n
But, more importantly, the studio should serve as a creative refuge cloistering one\u2019s own interest, a place where the mind is safe to think abstractly, going beyond day-to-day realities. In fact, for me, the most important studio is only 5 x 6 x 7 inches\u2014the inside of the human skull.\" \u2014Robert The collection saw Robert's art on a Sk8-Hi 38 Decon LX, an Authentic 44 Reissue LX, and a the Slip-On 98 Reissue LA. Our friends at Hypebeast<\/a> sat down with Robert to discuss the collection, and he told them, \"We all got together and discussed my artwork because a number of my pieces are beyond the scope of good morality. Certain judgements had to be made. Having been involved in underground comics in the \u201960s, I was involved in many tumultuous situations. We sat down and went through the artwork that would best lend itself to the Vans product line. Most of the artwork for this collection came from a show I just had a year ago in Barnsdall Park, and the Vans team was excited about that. Throughout the process, I cautioned them from overstepping the boundaries of propriety. However, they are young and daring and that\u2019s why I love Vans.\"<\/p>\r\n Robert has a busy schedule in the upcoming months.
