Concept Art Legend Gustaf Tenggren

January 07, 2014

Gustaf Tenggren was a Swedish-American illustrator whose concept art for The Walt Disney Company in the late 1930s was responsible for much of the legendary visual style that founded the company's sweeping impact in the world of animation. His work is influenced heavily by artist Arthur Rackham's fairytale imagery and the heavy use of silhouetted figures with caricatured faces. Take a look at some of these gorgeous illustrations used as references for scenes in Snow White, Pinocchio, Bambi and many of Grimm's Fairytales.
