John Baldessari, hailing from National City in San Diego, California, is an internationally acclaimed conceptual artist that has been been practicing from the mid twentieth century to the present. With over 200 solo shows and nearly 1,000 group shows, Baldessari's work is well known and frequently exhibited to say the least.

Here at Juxtapoz HQ we were incredibley sad that were not able to make the opening of Tom Sachs' newest exhibtion Space Program: Mars. Watching some of these videos that Sachs' released in coordination with the show like, How to Sweep and the newest one we came across Love Letter to Plywood is only making it worse.

What a good perspective to start a tattoo documentary series. Not with the legend of the game, but with an up-and-coming apprentice. Ink Stories kicked off their tattoo series following Daniel Ronson, an apprentice at The Circle in London, as he talks about following the history of tattooing and making his own way in the industry. And he paints a lot.

We don't care if you are tired of cats on the web, because what Lee Hardcastle does is beyond just cats. He recreates films with claymation cats, violence and gore all included. His newest claymation is a remake of the 2011 Indonesian film, The Raid, an extremely violent movie directed by Gareth Evans. But we are here to talk about cats.

Back in 2003 (what is shockingly almost a decade ago) Disney finally released a longstanding project titled Destino. Destino is a collaboration between the famed animator Walt Disney and the iconic surrealist painter Salvador Dalí. The film project began in 1946 with Dalí and John Hench storyboarding the work.

Juan F. Leguizamon is an interactive art director specializing in illustration, design and motion graphics. Juan is based in San Francisco, Ca. His illustrations are witty and humorous as are the animations he puts together... these drawings aren't just doodles anymore.

This weekend (its started already) is the inaugural San Diego Surf Film Festival, and with a great line-up of shorts, full-lenghts, documentaries, and experimental work, we wish we could check out Through the Whiskey Barrel: A Film About Surfing In Scotland (it shows on Saturday, May 12, we have time). Willis Earl Beal wandered through most of his 28 years on the planet without a steady job or much direction until his loneliness become so consuming that he began to sing. This animated graphite and charcoal video to Beal's 'Evening’s Kiss' and the song were both created by Mr. Beal himself.

A new video has been released of the quick tongue and prolific artist, Steven Powers, aka Espo, talking about his art at the PSFK Conference NYC. Powers discusses his recent public and private art projects, along with explaining his one-a-day art “Daily Metaltation” pieces. As usual, this talk is witty and humorous. Powers is one of our cover artists to the current May 2012 printed Juxtapoz.
