A Monster Calls: Book Illustrations by Jim Kay

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, August 21, 2012
Based in the UK, Jim Kay is a freelance illustrator, printmaker, and artist who works predominantly in children's books. Kay recently provided a series of illustrations for the award-winning book "A Monster Calls" by Patrick Ness, creating dark, brooding, and uniquely executed images that enhance the novel's haunting quality.

How To Tie a Windsor Knot

Juxtapoz // Saturday, August 18, 2012
Here is your official tutorial video, 'How to Tie a Windsor Knot' from Richard Numeroff- featuring a scantily clad seductress showing you the ropes. This is just one of a series of videos for a pilot fashion and style website, xLabel.tv, shot on the Canon 7D, Kessler Pocket Dolly and then cut in FCP with Magic Bullet Looks. We can't say we didn't try.

The LEGO 80th Anniversary Animated Film

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, August 14, 2012
We love how this video starts, and how 17 minutes later, we love LEGO even more than we do everyday. You have probably seen this before, a LEGO brick, but the story of the now 80-year old brand is something we should all know. Especially when animated and made by the good people of LEGO themselves.

The 8-Bit Olympic Games

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, August 01, 2012
Admit it, you have a little bit of Olympic fever? We are paying attention far more than expected, and perhaps because London provides a familiar backdrop, we don't mind archery at 3AM anymore. Artists are getting into the spirit, and each Olympics that pass is a new opportunity for the creative community to apply their taste and sensibility to various sports. Flikli has produced a nice 8-bot montage of the Olympics, getting us one step closer to watching Fencing.

Beyond the Body by Imme van der Haak

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, July 31, 2012
Dutch artist Imme van der Haak is behind the project, Beyond the Body, where "photos of the human body are printed onto translucent silk which will create the possibility of physically layering different body’s, ages, generations and identities." The results are a bit jarring, intriguing, especially in the video, where the dancing actors with the silk over their bodies confuses your perception of identity and, in our most honest assesment, the age of the performer.

Charming Baker x Paul Smith: Triumph in the Face of Absurdity

Juxtapoz // Friday, July 27, 2012
Charming Baker, the UK artist that was featured in our January 2012 issue, collaborated with famed British fashion designer (he makes a fantastic sunglass, FYI) Paul Smith on Triumph in the Face of Absurdity, a polished cast aluminium bicycle now on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The work was part of Britain Creates 2012: Fashion + Art Collusion, where leading British fashion designers and visual artists collaborate in a ground-breaking series of works commissioned as part of the London 2012 Festival.

The History of the World, Made with Paper and Fabric

Music // Thursday, July 26, 2012
Kevin Parry has taken on the daunting task of teaching us all about the History of the World, only he has decided it would be best to make an animation and make that animation out of paper and fabric. The animation is the basis for the music video of Kalle Mattson's "Thick As Thieves." When we get to the Jetsons-style future, that is when we are getting excited.

How to Make an Album Teaser: Efterklang's "Piramida"

Music // Wednesday, July 25, 2012
We are all music fans here, we all know that visual and audio go together hand and hand for the best possible experience when it comes to music. Here at Juxtapoz, we are huge fans of the Berlin-based band, Efterklang, a very talented group that was chronicled by Vincent Moon in the experimental live music film, The Island. Now, Efterklang is back with a new album, Piramida, and their album teaser is so well made, so inspiring, there may be some chills involved.

FriendsWithYou: "Cloudy"

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, July 25, 2012
We saw this last week, and forgot to mention it here on the site! Miami-based artists, Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III, aka FriendsWithYou, just created this short animatio, Cloudy, featuring their signature style and minimal character design with a playful, soulful piece. Or as FWY say, "a sweet, visual soundscape that takes the viewer through a personal journey into the sky. Sing, dance and relax as you follow a cast of clouds and raindrops through an entrancing adventure you'll wish to take over and over again."

Revok "Gilgamesh" Video Preview

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, July 24, 2012
As we have mentioned on the site this past week, REVOK is set to open a new solo show, Gilgamesh, at Known Gallery this Saturday, July 28 (same night as SABER's Beautification opens at the same gallery). Noah Banks has prepared a video preview of the work that went into REVOK's new series of works...
