There is new work in the streets of Luxembourg by Portuguese surface scraper, Alexandre Farto also known as Vhils. The artist used his unique excavating process of chipping away at the wall to create this portrait of a man.

Portuguese street artist, Vhils, recently visited Shanghai and carved portraits of evicted residents on the exteriors of houses set to be destroyed.

Vhils was recently in China for his solo exhibition at 18 Gallery and chipped away at a few walls while in town. The show itself starts on March 31, but Vhils has a public art exhibition that just started on the streets on Shanghai.

One of our favorite contemporary artists, Lisbon-based Vhils, just released a new monograph with Gestalten that we just receieved in the office yesterday. The monograph Vhils is the most extensive collection of his personal and commissioned work to date, much of which is published here for the first time, with an introduction written by Wooster Collective.

When we were in Stavanger, Norway for Nuart 2011, one of the most impressive artists that we met was Vhils, the Portuguese fine artist who created this incredible indoor installation of duel skulls. In a decaying, beautilful old brewery, Vhils and crew carved out this piece right out of the wall. And, there were some great street pieces as well...

Day 2 at Nuart was again a bit more set-up and preparation of the artist's rooms in advance of everyone getting out onto the streets of Stavanger for murals. Herakut, DVS-1, and Vhils starting working today, and Dan Witz, Herbert Baglione, David Choe, Tellas, Hyuro, and Escif began wrapping up their areas.

Day #2 in Grottaglie, Italy saw the preview night of FAME Festival 2011, where we were able to explore the exhibition portion of the public art celebration. In two separate spaces, there was great works from Vhils, Lucy McLauchlan, Ericailcane, Swoon, Escif, Moneyless, Boris Hoppek, and MOMO.

After a long drive in the wee hours of the morning, Juxtapoz arrived in the beautiful hill town of Grottaglie in Southern Italy to attend the opening of FAME Festival. With just a few hours to run around the town before sleep called, we saw work by Escif, Blu, Vhils, Lucy McLauchlan, Nespoon, Os Gemeos, Sam 3, Swoon, and others.

Nuart, hosted in the Norwegian city of Stavanger, is getting set to kick off on Ocotber 1, 2011 with artists from around the world descending upon the West Coast of the Scandinavian country. We are heading out there too, to see David Choe, Escif, Herbert Baglione, Hyuro, Dan Witz, Phlegm, and others paint on the city walls.
