On our Monday morning cruise around, we got sucked into the oil painting world of Venice, California based Becca Mann. A mixture of Southern California, a bit of early California and Southwestern style shows up in her paintings, and a few nice ocean/surf scenes in her graphite works are all very well executed. A good start to the week.

Mollusk's Venice surfshop location threw a limtied edition kick-off party for the Hurley Rick Griffin collection, complete with—what do you expect?—free drinks, tacos, and soundtrack by legendary surf rockers Denny Aaberg and the Cheater 5. Ron English is set to come to Los Angeles for two exhibitions this Fall: English 101 opens at Post No Bills in Venice on October 6, and Seasons in Supurbia opens at Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City on November 19. Post No Bills will have English present prints, hand-finished multiples, toys, sculptures, and sticker packs.

Tonight. September 15, at the new Post No Bills space in Venice Beach, a new exhibition of prints and hand-finished multiples is opening, titled Reality Bites. The show features some Juxtapoz alumni in Borf, Brett Amory, Kelsey Brookes, Mark Jenkins, Morley, Ravi Zupa, and June 2011 featured artist, Sage Vaughn.

Just a quick notice that Insight apparel opens "Water Skiing with Deepak" tonight, July 30, an art show by Ty Williams from 7 to 10pm in Venice, California. Williams' work focuses on an aquatic lifestyle and the characters and activities surrounding the ocean.  All the details after the jump. . . .

Italian studio, Bam!, were winners of the Venice Cityvision competition for their “air pod” designs. In attempt to reconnect residents with their waterways and reintroduce water into the citizen's daily experience, a series of outdoor rooms or “air pods” have been placed within the canal. Dangerous looking?

Nothing says comedy, economic uncertainty, and the Euro/American relationship more than a portrait of the Terminator made out of porn. How perfect is that? Tomorrow night (Thursday July 28), at the new Post No Bills space in Venice Beach, will be the opening of the European Bailout Show.

Richard Phillips has a trend buidling. First a "Lindsay Lohan" short film,  now "Sasha Grey." This, along with Phillip’s first short film, “Lindsay Lohan,” will be included in "Commercial Break," presented by the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Venice, Italy, June 1 - 5, 2011, concurrent with the 54th international exhibition of the Venice Biennale.

Polly Morgan, the modern taxidermist we have featured in the magazine in the past, will be showing Burials at Workshop Venice, starting on June 3, 2011. As the Workshop notes, "Morgan has contributed to a shift in public perception that has taken ‘the art of preparing, stuffing and mounting the skins of animals with lifelike effect’ to places never dreamed of by its original Victorian practitioners."
