Gorgeous Woodblock Prints from The Tugboat Printshop

Illustration // Tuesday, April 22, 2014
Paul Roden and Valerie Lueth create absolutely stunning, colorful woodblock prints through traditional processes. Together they formed the two person "Tugboat Printshop" in 2006, stationed in Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh. The creation of these images is no small effort, and we have fallen in love with the fairytale character of these images as well as the extremely professional quality of this old artisan process.

'We are a collaborative artist/printmaking duo (husband and wife) specializing in the start-to-finish creation & publishing of our original woodcut prints. Basically, everything the two of us do as a team is ‘Tugboat Printshop’. We have been working together since 2006 from our studios here in Pittsburgh, PA. We make our traditionally crafted woodcut prints by carving original drawings in low relief on blocks of birch plywood. Once carved, these wooden blocks are rolled up with ink and printed through a press onto paper to create the finished artworks.'

Tugboat Printshop is the collaborative name for the team printing projects of husband and wife duo Paul Roden and Valerie Lueth. All their intricate illustrations are made from linoleum block in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The amount of detail that this couple uses in their artwork is stunning, along with the fact that they are using a very time-consuming process without the aide of a computer. Super awesome!
