Nothing says summer vacation like the French Riviera. But in the case of David Choe and Estevan Oriol, they much prefer to spend the summer in one of the hardest places in the world to get into: Afghanistan. For the August 2013 issue, we get an exclusive, Anderson Cooper 360 style report from Afghanistan from the journals of David Choe and photos of Estevan Oriol. We follow their trek through the mountains, palaces, jails, and neighborhoods that most of the world has yet to see in over a decade. And they brought paint. 

Troels Carlsen "Mute Appeal" @ V1 Gallery, Copenhagen

Danish artist Troels Carlsen will be opening a solo exhibition entitled Mute Appeal at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen this Friday the 7th. The show will include 10 antique lithographs of stern looking gentlemen all modified seamlessly, de-constructed, now with wooden structures morphing with their heads. Displacement and vertigo are reoccurring themes in Mute Appeal, with the works both familiar and strange. Troels will be featured in the August 2013 issue of Juxtapoz Magazine.

"Chicken or Beef?" @ The Hole, NYC

One of our favorites curators of the moment, Jesper Elg of V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, just opened a curated show at The Hole in NYC called Chicken or Beef?. The show itself is loaded with great talent from both America and Europe, curated as a "Transatlantic survey of figurative painting in Europe and America, named after the ubiquitous question posed on transatlantic flights."
