We are very much enjoying the work of Toronto-based artist Mark Stebbins this morning. His dense, abstract compositions combine references to the domains of craft, fine art and digital imaging. Rather than use a computer, Stebbins creates his images by hand, opting for an organic, personal and labor-intenstive method, providing a metaphor "for the cultural information transmitted via both traditional craft labor and contemporary electronic visual practices.

For this year's Scotiabank Nuit Blanche in Toronto, Ai Weiwei debuted a new version of his Forever Bicycle installation. Consisting of 3,144 bicycles stacked 100 feet in length and 30 feet in height, the installation was lit with pink and blue lights and invited festival visitors to walk in between the thousands of bicycles. One of our favorite artists, Jen Stark, is set to open a solo show, Vortexural, at Cooper Cole Gallery in Toronto this Friday, July 5. As the gallery notes, Jen Stark's work is distinct and undeniably recognizable for its cyclical, colourful, op-art attributes. Stark fuels her craftsmanship with inspiration drawn from an interest in mathematics, natural organisms, and outer space. Optical illusions, colour gradations, and repetition play key roles in her sculptural works. The visual outcome is optically alluring and generates an ambiance of the surreal. These bold, colourful installations suggest a fantastical, psychedelic atmosphere and welcomes the viewer into the realm of Stark's imagination.

Over the past year, Juxtapoz and Converse have teamed on a unique project, Wall to Wall, where we invite an artist in a city in North America to create a semi-permanent mural based around the artist's interpretation of the iconic Converse star. Today, we look back on the mural created in Toronto, Canada by artist Troy Lovegates. Lovegates, who you may know as OTHER, went with his signature multi-colored figurative style, adding a dreamlike, colorful addition to the Wall to Wall project.

Coinciding with his exhibition at Cooper Cole Gallery in Toronto, the gallery has just released a new Geoff McFetridge print, "Chopping Stripes." We have made no secret that we love the new works from the LA-based McFetridge, and were impressed with his show at Ivory & Black in London this past Fall, and the works at Cooper Cole this month are again quite stunning. This print could make a wonderful holiday gift, hint, hint...
