This month, we have asked a few of our artist friends to give us their favorite Beastie Boys' memories. Rarely does a band transcend so many groups and genres, and we knew artists of all ages had a memory they wanted to share. Today, we ask Jeremy Fish about how the Beastie's influenced a kid from upstate New York... 

Our Beastie Boys issue is now out in the world, and today we look at the contributions of Todd James, known sometimes as REAS, to the BBoys canon. James created a few animations and graphic works for the Beasties, including the Dusted Elephant. He also created the animated sequence for the 1992 B-side, "The Skills to Pay the Bills." 

We are sure that Harmony Korine's "let's put former-Disney girls in bikinis for two hours and see if people pay attention and then have James Franco in cornrows" film Spring Breakers will be the most polarizing chunk of pop-culture in 2013. But we aren't here to review the film, we are here to draw your attention to the Todd James designed Spring Breakers tee created with Opening Ceremony that is part of a larger capsule collection of all things Spring Breakers/Spring Break. Wait, people still get a Spring Break? 

One of our favorites curators of the moment, Jesper Elg of V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, just opened a curated show at The Hole in NYC called Chicken or Beef?. The show itself is loaded with great talent from both America and Europe, curated as a "Transatlantic survey of figurative painting in Europe and America, named after the ubiquitous question posed on transatlantic flights."

Former Juxtapoz Magazine cover artist Todd James (aka Reas) will be exhibiting a new collection of acrylic paintings at Lazarides Galleries in London. Part of his iconic Somali Pirates series, the New York-based artist's paintings depict pirates, often in headgear and masks, brandishing AK-47s and performing a range of quotidian activities.

In conjunction with V1 Gallery's 10 year anniversary show, Tonight We Won't Be Bored, the Copenhagen-based gallery just released a series of editions that include Todd James, Richard Colman, Anika Lori, Andrè Saraiva (Mr A), Geoff McFetridge, and HuskMItNavn (Remember My Name). To us, V1 has one of the best programs of any of the galleries we cover, and we want to say congrats on 10 years of showing great artists, and here's to 10 more!

As part of Todd James' newest exhibition at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, Free To Be You & Me, James recreated his now famed creation from MOCA's Art In the Streets and Street Market, the Vandal's Bedroom. Today, we take a closer look at the installation. 

No question, there aren't many artists that pique our interest quite like Todd "REAS" James. For the past few years, his technicolor portraits of cartoon modern day pirates and contraband, with no expression and done in a flat, abstract style, are a nice counter-balance to the millions of images we see on news networks depicting contemporary warfare.
