Thomas Campbell, always hard at work on a variety of projects, has currently embedded himself in Santa Cruz near his studio to complete a mural at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History. Thomas began his work in December of 2012 and will complete the project in late February of 2013, at which point the work will remain on display at the Museum through March 17, 2013.

This Friday, November 9, Thomas Campbell will be having both a signing/release and exhibition surrounding his new surf photography book, Slide Your Brains Out, at Mollusk Surf Shop in San Francisco. Tommy Guerrero and Ray Barbee will be playing live, the book looks amazing as it features Campbell's surf shots from 1997—2012, and Mollusk is an SF staple. Go.

This is our kind of showcase. Former Juxtapoz covers, Thomas Campbell (April 2007), Evan Hecox (August 2012), and Ed Templeton (featured throughout the years, most recently, February 2012), will all be showing at the same time at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, starting on Friday, August 31. And for clarity sake, all 3 artists are having solo shows. This is 3 for the price of 1.

This past weekend we stopped by Known Gallery to check out Aaron Rose’s Fire Sale. When Rose moved to Los Angeles from NYC in 2001, the Beautiful Losers curator left a "big black box of 1990?s memories" in storage space in Glendale. Thomas Campbell, cover of our April 2007 issue, is set to release a new book through Gingko Press and Um Yeah Press, From Ummmm to Der. The book catalogs the many different facets of the Santa Cruz County-based artist, including installation, painting, sculpture, music, video, printmaking, and photography. And the cover is yellow, which is really quite nice.

Our good friends at Power House Productions in Detroit, whom we worked with during our 15th Anniversary fundraiser in 2009-10, is putting on a skateboard art exhibition fundraiser, Good Wood, for the Ride It Sculpture Park that is going in the neighborhood close to where Juxtapoz bought houses in 2009. The online bidding auction begins on May 19, and the art show that coincides with the auction begins on May 26 in Detroit.

Thomas Campbell, on assignment with the New York Times Style Magazine, went to the set of the fillm "Of Men and Mavericks," Curtis Hanson's newest film due in Fall 2012. The biopic tells the story of Jay Moriarty, the surfer who put the infamous and monster Northern California surf spot, Mavericks, on the map. Campbell took some beautiful pictures on the set.

In preparation for his new show at The Half Gallery in New York, The Standard made this video of Campbell discussing his work and putting on the finishing touches in his make-shift studio at the Standard, East Village. The video reveals Campbell's desire to depict inspiration in an artwork running along a theme of "capture and release" in the artistic process.

Northern California-based artist, filmmaker, surfer Thomas Campbell (one of our favorites, and cover of Juxtapoz' April 2007 issue) is set to open a series of new paintings, sculpture, and sewn paper stuff at Half Gallery in NYC tonight, December 9, 2011. Besides Capture and Release at Half Gallery, Campbell will be creating a new mural at Max Fish from December 11—13. Mark the calendars.
