And finally, the art. We are so proud of all the artwork that is on exhibit in "Art Truancy: Celebrating 20 Years of Juxtapoz Magazine," open at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in NYC through June 14, 2014. It blows our mind that we are now two decades old, but what is even more amazing are all the artists that have been in our pages over those years. Their works tell the story, create the chance to document alternative art narratives, bring out the fans, bring out the collectors, and keep the creative energy of Juxtapoz alive. Here, then, is all the art in "Art Truancy."

On May 15, 2014, Juxtapoz and Jonathan LeVine Gallery will open "Art Truancy: Celebrating 20 Years of Juxtapoz Magazine," a group exhibition at both of LeVine's spaces at 557C West 23rd Street & 529 West 20th Street in Manhattan. The exhibition features a wide-range of cover artists and featured artists from over the past 20 years, and today we have a look at some of the covers from artists in the show. From Robert Williams to Grotesk, Mark Ryden to Swoon, here is a bit of a history lesson to catch up on, or reminisce over.

This is a fun little show from the curators of V1 Gallery, where they sent out a message to a bunch of artists they have shown over the years, including Barry McGee, Tim Barber, Ray Potes, Ed Templeton, Art Marcopoulos, and more, and asked them to submit one piece of art, in an edition of 1 + 1AP, that reflects the current state of the individual artists position right now. That show has become "Hindsight," and opens on January 17, 2014.

A message from past cover artist and Juxtapoz friend, Thomas Campbell: "This coming week. November 29, I am opening an exhibition in Tokyo at the Common Gallery. This show is mainly based around photographs from my "SLIDE YOUR BRAINS OUT" book and some other sewn ditties." Campbell also worked with Robin Kegel on a new limited edition Gato Heroi board they designed together in France called the "Blow Dart...". We don't have a picture of that, but many of Campbell's surf photos...
Music // Friday, November 01, 2013
This past Wednesday, Juxtapoz attended a special benefit and auction hosted by Flea and Anthony Kiedis, all to benefit the Los Angeles area Silverlake Conservatory of Music. Past Juxtapoz featured artists Thomas Campbell, Retna, Shepard Fairey, Gus Van Sant, Ed Ruscha, and many more were in attendance, with art up for auction to support the school as well. To make it even better, Neil Young and the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed. All and all... a good cause and good night. Here are some of the shots...

Joshua Liner Gallery is pleased to present FOLKLORE, an exhibition of handcrafted works that celebrate the simple and direct experience of visual enjoyment. Curated by gallery artist Evan Hecox (cover artist, August 2012) and featuring artists from the United States, England, and France, FOLKLORE offers a view of contemporary practice that synthesizes art, design, and photography into a new vernacular. Created across a range of media, these works are catchy and infectious like a summer pop song, while drawing viewers into underlying ideas about modern life.

We are excited to bring you the second of two exclusive videos from the one and only Thomas Campbell! In addition to the large-scale three-dimensional mural at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History featured in the first video, Thomas produced a new sculpture, Seque, and documented its transformation from assemblage to rubber mold to wax model to bronze. This video showcases the complex lost wax technique by which Thomas and collaborating bronze master Sean Monaghan created the finished sculpture.

We are excited to bring you an exclusive video from one of our favorites, Thomas Campbel this morning! In December of 2012, Campbell collaborated with the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History on "Work in Progress" where, for eleven weeks, museum visitors could watch as Thomas invented, deconstructed, and reimagined a landscape of mythic characters and stories. The result is his most ambitious work to date: a 75-foot-long three-dimensional mural in the museum's main gallery. This video, directed by Tiffany Campbell, captures the process from first stroke of paint to last and all the surprises in-between.
