Prior to the opening of this show, Matt Doust passed away from an epileptic seizure, and with his family's blessing, Thinkspace honored Matt by presenting a final body of work this month. The result is a stunning body of hyperreal paintings. An accomplished portraitist, Doust’s hyperrealistic paintings explore the concept of identity through the external betrayals of the body.

New work entitled Earthly Beings by Australian artist Bec Winnel will be on view in the Thinkspace project room on Saturday, September 7th, with an opening reception at 6pm. An accomplished illustrator, Winnel's portraiture combines the illustrative precision of a graphic artist with the sophistication and emotiveness of a painter. The ethereal quality of the artist's work is the result of carefully accreted layers of color and pencil.

Thinkspace is pleased to present Reflections of a New Generation, featuring new work by Ekundayo, Joram Roukes (featured in our April 2013 issue), and Adam Caldwell. These three distinct artists are unified by a painterly approach to their subject matter and by a tendency towards the surreal. Each works from a unique set of influences and introjects a personal dimension into that of the cultural. Gleaning inspiration from subculture, personal experience, and art history, each has developed a style entirely their own that speaks to a complex locus of coexisting cultural sensibilities.

Thinkspace is pleased to present Curioso a group exhibition featuring new work by gallery artists Jeremy Hush, Lindsey Carr, and Frank Gonzales. These artists’ respective, and unmistakably distinct, practices explore contemporary representations of the natural and animal worlds. Their imagery is derived uniquely, relying on a combination of observation, historical 19th century natural history and botanical references, and their personal experiences of nature drawn in sharp relief against their immersion in the urban.

Los Angeles based gallery Thinkspace has teamed up with Gallery 309 in Philadelphia, PA to present ‘LAX / PHL’. This special group exhibition has been curated by Thinkspace to further introduce our roster to the City of Brotherly Love. Featuring new works from over 40 artists from around the world and an installation from Philly’s very own NoseGo, the exhibition will run from May 11th through June 21st.

This Saturday, April 6, Thinkspace Gallery will open a new show, Heavenly Creatures, with Australian artist, Meggs. Heavenly Creatures will feature ambitious new works by Meggs ranging from painting, sculpture, and installation. Working across media, the artist will also be creating a large scale thaumatrope as part of the exhibition installation – an antiquated Victorian device used historically to demonstrate the persistence of vision.
