Next Saturday, July 19th, Thinkspace will be presenting new works by Dutch artist Joram Roukes (April, 2013) in Paramnesia. Roukes has been residing and working in Los Angeles over the past six months, drawing inspiration from his time spent in the city for this new body of work. Combining imagery distilled from the observed and the imagined, the artist’s paintings invoke a schizophrenic contemporaneity colonized by both disaster and desire. Roukes’ works present us with fractured identities and chasmic experiences: frayed realities ambiguously dramatized through the aberrations of fantasy

We have been a huge fan of Canadian artist, Matthew Feyld, for a long time. The funny thing is, we have been a fan of two different kinds of Matthew Feyld's now for the past few years, and didn't even register that they were the same person. The first one is a minimal figurative painter with almost comic influence and the second is one with wonderful abstract sensibilities.

Exhibiting a technically meticulously detailed array of acrylic paintings, Toronto based artist Jacub Gagnon opens his solo show at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles on Saturday June, 21st. He creates these exacting works with minute brushstrokes and layers, creating tensions between the artificial and the natural that reach to realms of the propped, plausible and absurd. Illuminating the undeniably effective visual contrasts with a stark black background, Gagnon stages a beautiful realistic portrayal of characters. The odd, the absurd and the frictions of nature intrigue and attract while showcasing impressive talent.

Thinkspace Gallery is pleased to present Adrift, the gallery’s first solo exhibition of new works by Los Angeles based, French born, artist Liz Brizzi. Her mixed media collage paintings combine photography, paper and acrylic washes of paint on board to build complex and layered graphic works that capture the architectural specters of the urban core. Originally looking to the forgotten and often bereft and marginalized corners of Los Angeles, and traveling to its outskirts and un-gentrified peripheries, Brizzi sought to excavate the beauty of its imperfect embrasures.

Thinkspace is pleased to present Kioku No Hana (Flower of Memory), featuring new and recent works by Japanese artist Fuco Ueda. Ueda is renowned for her surreal narrative paintings of slight girls surrounded by all manner of lush hyper-colored flora and fauna. The artist’s work conveys a feeling of ambivalent rapture, as her dreamy subjects are suspended in varying states of silent revelation and resignation; quiet witnesses to recondite mysteries.

Kicking off the New Year at Thinkspace Gallery this weekend will be two great shows, Seamus Conley & Henrik Aa. Uldalen are together for "In Limbo," while Elliot Brown will open "Abramelin" in the project room. All artists touch on hyperrealism, but with a haunting, dark, mythical backdrop.
