Théophile Alexandre Steinlen (1859 - 1923) was a Swiss-born, Parisian-based art nouveau painter and printmaker with a lifelong obsession with cats. His best known work, "Le Chat Noir," is ubiquitous in poster shops across France and the US, and during his lifetime he produced hundreds of paintings, sketches, and engravings of his beloved felines.
