With all the glowing gadgets and gizmos continuously competing for your attention, the experience of sitting down with a good ol’ magazine or zine could be looked at as a technological getaway. That’s one viewpoint. Then there are zines that are actual pieces of art, each cover painted slightly different, bound by needle and thread.

Popularized during World War 1 by Italian and German pilots, Nose Art was the practice of personalizing your fighting aircraft.  Commonly, these paintings were on the fuselage and were painted by civilian artists, and talented amateur servicemen.  Often the imagery was scantily clad women accompanied by a witty pun.  TheFlopBox recently released a limited edition zine titled “The Bitch’s Sister” that highlights Nose Art from found photographs.

Grazing through a stack of zines I came across the ABC #2 zine.  Did your eyes ever catch a glimpse of this? Twenty-six artists were each given the first letter of their graffiti name to draw.  Artists included were Abno, Bonus, Cecster, Dr.Sex, Erupto327, Fword, Grey, Honke . . .
