Vessels have been a culturally significant and traditional form of art making for centuries. As an extension of his painting practice, Mark Whalen takes his cue from these traditions to present a series of pictorial ceramic vessels for a site-specific installation at The Standard, Hollywood.

Juxtapoz contributing editor, Hannah Stouffer, has made a homebase in downtown Los Angeles the past week working on a 40-foot mural on the 6th Street wall at the Standard Downtown hotel. She titled the mural, "E.P.S.T (Existence, Possibility, Space and Time)," noting that "I’ve been drawn to focusing on themes of metaphysical beingness, as of late. I’m still heavily engaged with our natural landscape, due to my upbringing and an an almost overwhelming admiration for that which we came."

Erwin Wurm "Big Kastenmann" @ Standard Hotel, NYC (W/Video)

Austrian artist, Erwin Wurm, has taken over the outdoor plaza of the Standard Hotel in New York with am 18-foot, 1.6-ton sculpture of a headless box man. The artist’s new sculpture titled “Big Kastenmann” now occupies the space where KAWS' sculpture “Companion Passing Through” once stood last summer.

Ryan McGinness "Women: The Blacklight Paintings" at The Standard Hollywood

Just as we wrote about Ryan McGinness' show at Country Club LA coming this week, we note that NYC-based McGinness will also be opening a new show at the Standard, Hollywood, titled Women: The Blacklight Paintings. The paintings are based on figure drawings of over 65 models completed during sittings with the artist over the past year.
