Opening this Friday March 1st in San Francisco, The Popular Workshop is proud to present Self Help, new work by Ben Barretto (Australian b. 1985). Self Help continues Barretto’s ongoing exploration into recursion; with each of the series of works he presents ‘making’ themselves to some extent. That is, the chosen material and its inherent properties inform the process and drive the work into a constant loop of feedback.

The Popular Workshop is proud to present “Eating Out of the Drain,” an exhibition of new work from California based artists Chris Lux and Dane Johnson. Presenting documentation and sequential examples of his own artistic process alongside three principal pieces of sculpture and painting, Lux expands upon his own previous work. Sourced from a collection of objects and contemporary images compiled within the confines of his apartment, Johnson’s work, shown in an array of mediums addresses the increasingly abundant and disparate elements of visual culture...

The Popular Workshop is proud to present “Lightning Appears For A Clear Sky”, the first major American exhibition of Stockholm-based photographers Thobias Fäldt and Klara Källström. Noted as representatives of an emerging generation of European photographers, the artists and their collective works exist not only within a traditional realm of fine art, but also explore photojournalism, editorial, publishing and commercial art.

This past weekend The Popular Workshop had an opening party for Remains in the End Times, a multi-layered show featuring mostly video art from Yoshi Sodeoka, Rosa Menkman, Daniel Menche, J.K. Keller, and Cristopher Cichocki with prints curated by Jesse Lee Stout. The art in this exhibit is all around you, intense, frenetic, and unrelenting. The highlight is an installation of video art in the far corner made of deconstructed Simpsons episode.
