Saber "The Ugly American" @ The Outsiders, London

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, January 08, 2014
Down south, by popular demand. Saber took over The Outsiders Newcastle space this past Fall, and now he will bring his "The Ugly American" exhibition down to The Outsiders London. Saber's exhibition features a wide range of paintings, created with his signature technique of blending unforgiving aerosol art with exquisite abstractions in charcoal and oil. The works aim to be an aesthetic reflection on American society, just like the 1963 movie The Ugly American starring Marlon Brando.

DALeast "Redok" @ The Outsiders, Newcastle

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, November 27, 2013
An artist to watch for sure over the coming years... DALeast has been making some waves in both the mural and painting world over the past few years. DALeast's solo exhibition REDOK – a Tibetan phrase meaning "hope and fear" – features animal paintings in traditional portrait formats, taking inspiration from commissioned works of the early modern era. The portraits are painted in the artist's distinctive, inspiring style. They include the tea-stained backgrounds, which he lovingly builds over many months, that feature on many of his bravura gallery pieces.

Hush "Fatales" @ The Outsiders, London

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, November 05, 2013

Stanley Donwood... On Trees

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, September 18, 2013
Yesterday, we showed you a preview of Stanley Donwood's new show, Far Away is Close at Hand in Images of Elsewhere, opening that London's The Outsiders gallery on September 20, 2013. When we were looking at the new work, we started seeing a theme... a theme that has entered Donwood's work with Radiohead and the King Of Limbs LP: trees! Lots of lonely, ghostly, reaching, bare trees. So we asked Mr Donwood... what's up with the trees?

Stanley Donwood "Far Away Is Close At Hand in Images of Elsewhere" @ The Outsiders, London

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, September 17, 2013
Radiohead’s in-house artist Stanley Donwood returns to The Outsiders London with a haunting and hugely appealing exhibition of artworks in September 2013. Far Away is Close at Hand in Images of Elsewhere showcases Stanley’s ambitious ink and pencil pieces featuring hidden country footpaths, Known as Holloways, and other arboreal scenes. These are featured in Stanley’s hit book of the same name, published by Faber and Faber earlier this year.

Cleon Peterson "There Is A War" @ The Outsiders, London

Juxtapoz // Saturday, July 06, 2013
If you happen to get yourself to London in the month of July, there is a good art show to check out: Cleon Peterson, "There Is A War," at London's The Outsiders. "Cleon Peterson's nightmarish tableaux feature scenes of a barbaric holocaust, where might is right and the weak are merely souls with holes for the strong to torment and abuse. Deviance is the norm, and the displaced individual is forced to navigate this wicked world alone, finding hollow bits of pleasure and meaning in violence, sex, religion and drugs."
