This past week, we made it out to the opening of May 2011 cover artist, Eric Yahnker's new solo show, Virgin Birth N' Turf, at the Hole in NYC. The exhibition featured meticulous, two-foot colored pencil and graphite drawings to towering ten-foot works on paper; from tiny sculptural interventions to massive three dimensional arrangements.

May 2011 cover artist and Los Angeles based fine artist, Eric Yahnker is set to open his first NYC solo show, Virgin Birth 'N' Turf, at The Hole tonight, September 4. One of the most talented drawers we can think of, with meticulous details of some of the most innane pop-culture topics, Yahnker's notes his new works "provides a mad lab where I get to swab the inner-cheek and place under a microscope a petri dish of the contemporary American experience in the shadow of another blisteringly contentious Presidential election..."

Alison Blickle says her work is about "attaining unattainable experiences and connection." She paints sensual women by combining classical painting techniques with elements from landscapes. Alison currently lives and works in Los Angeles. She has recently shown at The Hole in NYC, as well as Richard Heller in Los Angeles, Deitch Projects, and with Eleanor Harwood of San Francisco.

We kept the buzzing pace yesterday as we headed up north to check out the NADA Art Fair, which was a fair we really looked forward to checking out. Ratio 3, The Hole, Ambach + Rice, and Creative Growth were just some of the booths we wanted to make sure we caught.

Tonight, Thursday, July 21, TAKI 183 will be the featured artist at The History of American Graffiti book signing at the post-Deitch Projects space, The Hole NYC. Today is the 40th anniversary of the infamous NY Times headline: TAKI183 Spawns Penpals, which ignited the graffiti movement in New York.

Kathy Grayson at The Hole Gallery in NYC is curating a show at Royal/T in Culver City, California, FACEMAKER, featuring “works from contemporary young artists including the title piece by Ben Jones, in addition to Shepard Fairey, Takashi Murakami, Barry McGee, Kenny Scharf, Eric Yahnker, Jane Moseley, Olaf Breuning, Carroll Dunham, David Shrigley, and Gary Webb, and the show will explore interpretations of the most universal element of human perception: the face..” More after the jump . . .
