Sweden-based artist Denimu (aka Ian Berry), known for his work constructing incredible scenes purely out of used denim and jeans, has installed a life sized New York newsstand at the Shooting Gallery in San Francisco. Berry began experimenting with textiles, manipulating color and form with bleach, stencils and glue. His work is painstakingly cut, stitched, and pasted together.

Real-Life Tetris by Michael Johansson http://www.juxtapoz.com/current/real-life-tetris-by-michael-johansson http://www.juxtapoz.com/current/real-life-tetris-by-michael-johansson Real-Life Tetris by Michael Johansson
If you want someone to come tidy your apartment, we think we have found your man in Michael Johansson, an artist who takes a real-life Tetris approach to both public and fine art. The artist has a knack of compartmentalizing the right objects into the right spaces to create incredible collages of no longer used goods in a colorful, eye-popping way. The artist is busy with public art work in Malmo, Sweden, as well as a museum show in Oslo coming up, so we wanted to look at some newer works.

Black and White Works by Kilian Eng http://www.juxtapoz.com/current/black-and-white-works-by-kilian-eng http://www.juxtapoz.com/current/black-and-white-works-by-kilian-eng Black and White Works by Kilian Eng
We kick of 2013 with one of our favorite artists of the moment, Swedish illustrator Kilian Eng. Featured in our magazine in the past, and on our site a bunch, we love his new series of black and white, science-fiction inspired works. Seems like Eng took some effective Moebius pills, and there is nothing wrong with that.

A fun series of photo manipulations and fantasy settings by Swedish photographer and retoucher, Erik Johansson. Although he graduated with a degree in computer engineering, he had a passion for photography and was able to fuse the two together.

One of the major highlights of Art Basel so far was seeing the work of Tehran-born, Gothenburg, Sweden based fine artist, Omid Delafrouz. With two large-scale works and two studies displayed in the Andréhn-Schiptjenko booth at Art Basel Miami Beach, Delafrouz had a sense of youthful humor and nostalgia quite rare to see in the large fair.

The Works of Cecilia Carlstedt http://www.juxtapoz.com/current/the-works-of-cecilia-carlstedt http://www.juxtapoz.com/current/the-works-of-cecilia-carlstedt The Works of Cecilia Carlstedt
Combining the linear precision of graphite portraits with the gestural dynamism of watercolor, Swedish illustrator Cecilia Carlstedt creates ethereal paintings that maintain visual roots in the boldness of graphic design. Her meticulously controlled ink blots and splashes create a stunning illusion of her subjects flickering in and out of focus before our very eyes.

The Works of Markus Akesson http://www.juxtapoz.com/current/the-works-of-markus-akesson http://www.juxtapoz.com/current/the-works-of-markus-akesson The Works of Markus Akesson
We saw these new works by Swedish fine artist, Markus Akesson, yesterday, and they stayed in the back of our mind's all night, so we figured that must be a sign. The new paintings, most of them shown here, were on display at the VIDA Museum in Borgholm, Sweden, through September 30, 2012. The works are all oil on linen.

This sounds a little vague, but we have definitely been excited by classic, handpainted movie posters on the site over the past week (see our Top 25 list here). Today, we came across a great list compiled by 50Watts of these great Swedish posters from the 1930s that were made in conjunction with the great Hollywood films of the day.
