Fiesa Sand Sculpture Festival

Every year the Fiesa International Sand Sculpture Festival takes place in Pêra, Algarve,Portugal bringing together the most talented sculptures from around the world to build a city-like installation.  Using thirty-five thousand tons of sand to build with, the theme is ever changing ranging from Hollywood, discoveries, living world, and animal kingdom.  This year’s event opened last Friday on May 25, 2012 and will run until October 25.

Flesh-eating zombie garden gnomes

With recent headlines of a face-eating person in Florida, whose response to a police officers demand to stop was to look back with flesh in his mouth and grumble, face-eating gnomes seem all to timely.  Los Angeles-based couple, Chris Stever and Jane DeRosa, has created a series of gruesome zombie gnomes in grotesque scenarios.

One of our favorite street artists/interventionists is France's OakOak, who takes the most simple public property and transforms it into his own version of a video game. Cinder blocks turn into the Scream, doorsteps into piano keys, etc. OakOak is set to open a brand new exhibition on June 1, 2012, 892 Miles, at Lazarides' The Outsiders space in Newcastle, England.

Rome-based multidisciplinary artist, Agostino Lacurci, is in Lazio, Italy where he recently completed multiple murals for the Memorie Urbane Festival.  The artist kept to his familiar color palette for all these new works.

Sheffield-based artist, Phlegm, made a trip to London and painted the following two pieces.  On one wall he painted a primitive-looking trumpet and on the other  his signature characters are seen standing on a tree stump, while holding a smoking house with vines coming out the windows.

Saner x Sego x AEC Interesni Kazki in Mexico City

Aec of Interesni Kazki was recently in Mexico City and linked up with locals Saner and Sego to collaborate on the following wall.  Aec painted a hatted saguaro cactus playing a corn necked guitar, Saner is responsible for the two masked characters one who is dancing, and Sego with the purple fish.  Nice mashup of styles!
