It’s a slow day on the streets today, so we are going to bring it back to this Joe Stummer memorial mural painted in 2003 by legendary graffiti writers, Dr. Revolt and Zephyr, in New York. “The Future is Unwritten” / “Know Your Right!” The mural has been repainted a number of times due to deterioration and defacement, but it looks better than ever here.  

Street Artists Given Run of Condemned Les Bains Nightclub

Les Bains-Douches was built in 1885 as a municipal bathouse and eventually became one of the most popular nightclubs in Paris, a favourite of Mick Jagger, Kate Moss, Johnny Depp, and Andy Warhol. The building was declared a safety hazard in 2010 and closed. Since it's closure, the building's owners have invited 50 street artists to decorate the interior. 

Brent Christensen's Ice Castles

Constructed entirely out of Ice with no supporting substructure, these Ice Castles by artist Brent Christensen are incredible examples of what the majority of public art is, Ephemeral. With the help of 20 or so crew members, Christensen builds these structures by forming self-made icicles that require millions of gallons of water. Some reach a height of 25 feet and contain stairs, archways, tunnels, and can be illuminated at night with multi-colored LED lights.  

New Hyuro Mural in Valencia, Spain

Hyuros’s street work often attempts to comment on and challenge current cultural topics, with animals being prominent figures in her ideas. The artist’s newest piece in Valencia, Spain shows two dead deer encircled by set lights.

Phlegm @ Bloop Festival

UK-based muralist, Phlegm, recently completed this 4 story high mural in Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza for The Bloop Festival.  The walls show two mechanical arms operating each other by the pull of a string with the artist’s signature characters doing a little maintenance.  Hopefully the artist was able to take a dip in that pool next door after baking in the sun painting this piece.

Lego Bridge in Germany

Over the course of 4 weeks, German artist, Martin Heuwold, aka Megx, used colored panels to transform this bridge into a vibrant Lego brick overpass.  The bridge is part of debunk train line that was converted in to bicycle and pedestrian path located in Wuppertal, Germany.

New York Public Artist arrested for "planting false bombs"

A Brooklyn-Based artist who had installed a series of illuminated “I Love New York” bags to lampposts in Brooklyn was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with planting false bombs, along with several other charges.  Takeshi Miyakawa, a visual artist and furniture designer, was placing the bags as a public project to show his love for the city and to lift people’s spirits.

Hyuro in Cholula, Mexico

This encircled collection of folding chairs was painted in Cholula, Mexico, by Spanish artist, Hyuro.  There is something eerie and dark about this particular wall, maybe it’s the absence of people?
