Juxtapoz is proud to announce a very special August 2014 issue, featuring one of our all-time favorite musicians, creatives, and all around artistic personas, Madlib. For years, we have followed Madlib's eclectic career, from Quasimoto, Madvillain, Jaylib, Yesterday's New Quintet, the Beat Konducta series, and everything in between. One common thread has always been the unique and artistically-driven alter egos that Madlib has given to the world, and in this issue, we talk to the musician about his world of music and art.

In the next few months, Juxtapoz is going to be looking into the visual art behind one of underground hip-hop/jazz/music's true innovators, Madlib. If you are a fan, you know that the Beat Konducta has many monikers and identities, characters that he lets take centerstage over his own look. Madlib has long been associated with Stones Throw Records, and the label is the subject of a great new documentary, "Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton: This is Stones Throw Records," that you can watch, buy, and stream online right now. See it, and get ready for some upcoming Juxtapoz coverage...

We are huge fans of all the art direction at hip-hop label, Stones Throw, and we are huge fans of all the musical identities of one super-producer, Madlib. Stones Throw and Madlib have just released a very special Madvillainy 2: The Madlib Remix box set, featuring a double LP with printed cover, MP3 download card, and, here is what we are excited about, a 12-page mini-comic.

Besides being a talented fine artist based in San Francisco, Jason Jagel has built a dedicated body of work creating imagery surrounding underground hip-hop icons, Madlib and MF Doom. The latter work has found its way in a deluxe reissue of the classic MF Doom album Operation Doomsday. . .
