Looks like Ron English stopped by and got up some of his now iconographic Abraham Obama wheatpastes outside of San Francisco’s Shooting Gallery August 18 - 19, 2008. Keep it up, Mister Popaganda.

Ron English Predicts the Future?

Juxtapoz // Thursday, July 10, 2008
Okay, we know you’ve probably already seen this epic billboard done by the legendary “popaganda” artist Ron English, but it has a whole new meaning in light of yesterday’s Los Angeles Times article discussing McCain’s obvious avoidance of the topic of Viagra. As we’re sure you know, Viagra has been a controversial medication since its inception because many health insurance companies will cover the cost of Viagra for men, but not the cost of birth control for women. You may not know, however, that McCain voted twice (in 2003 and 2005) against measures that would have required insurance companies to cover birth control for women. Earlier this week McCain obviously struggled with this heated topic, stating that he did not recall those votes, and later said "It's something that I had not thought much about." That’s just lovely. We always respect a politician and potential American President that doesn’t really think about the country’s important health care concerns. The long and the err… short of it, is that once again, Ron English drew some much-needed political attention a whopping two months before with this hilarious LA billboard. Keep playing with that crystal ball, Mr English.

Abraham Obama: Ron English Display & New Print

Juxtapoz // Wednesday, July 09, 2008
Last Wednesday, July 2nd, our buddies at JetSet Graffiti filmed (above) the colorful display of Ron English’s Abraham Obama image at Boston’s Gallery XIV, which raised some questions about street versus fine art amongst the artsy crowd in Beantown. Later that evening, exactly 232 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, JetSet went back behind the camera to film as the ghost of Abe Lincoln asserted his presidential vote by wheatpasting English’s Abraham Obama posters all over the city. “The next morning the ‘crisis’ started as Gallery XIV began fielding tons of phone calls from concerned citizens, business owners, and even the Mayor’s office,” writes JetSet. If you can’t get enough of Ron English’s Abraham Obama poster, you’re in luck because JetSet just made prints available right here. Cop yours and assert a lil’ independence today.

Video: Ron English, Swoon, JetSet Graffiti x Santa's Ghetto

Juxtapoz // Monday, July 07, 2008
Check out this footage from Banksy’s Santa’s Ghetto Exhibition in Bethlehem. Ron English, SWOON, and JetSet Graffiti donated artwork to Santa’s Ghetto and traveled there to paint on the Apartheid Wall and work in solidarity with the elusive British artist Banksy. The effort was made to raise awareness of the horrible reality that faces the Palestinian and Israeli people on a daily basis. Using art as a catalyst for change, these brave artists ventured into a live war-zone to create their unique and distinctive form of street art and make a statement to the world about the horrors of oppression and marginalization of minorities in modern society. The exhibition raised 1 million dollars for the children of Palestine. For more information or to make a donation to the Santa’s Ghetto project, visit

As part of New York City’s Project Colorize, actors dressed in all black wore the new color wayfarers and literally stopped traffic for 20 minutes at the unveiling of the first billboard by artist Ron English, one of five to go up in NYC. Project Colorize brings art back to the streets, turning NYC into an open art gallery for the month of July. Other artists commissioned to display their unique artwork include Tara McPherson, Scott Alger, Queen Andrea, and Toofly. Peep more Ron English billboard photos this way…

Ron English Billboard

Juxtapoz // Tuesday, June 03, 2008
You know election fever has truly hit the streets when the endlessly innovative Ron English includes Presidential hopeful McCain in his own campaign: “Popaganda.” This notorious street and gallery artist is still keeping it real after years of highlighting American ironies and hypocrisies on anything from a street corner all the way up to massive Los Angeles billboards. We’re not sure how McCain or Viagra feel about this, but we can say with absolute certainty: this shit is dope.

Maybe not the first two artists you'd think to exhibit in the same space together, but a double billing of Britain's beloved Adam Neate and America's legendary Ron English at Elms Lesters Painting Rooms in London is nothing short of eye candy wonder. See the pair’s show captured on film right here…
