We have touched on the idea of high fashion using skeletal make-up styles for shoots, and we are especially impressed by French photographer Pauline Darley for Ever Magazine, where model Clémentine Levy is touched up with a ghostly look. Elegant and subtle.

In late 2011, we showed you the work of Tom French, a fine artist who, inside of his dripping skull portraits created sub-portraits of women amongst the skull piece. The And now, some newer works. The England-based artist "combines detailed photorealism with strong elements of abstraction and surrealism, focusing on the reflection of the conscious and subconscious mind."

After seeing the spectacle that was Damien Hirst's For the Love of God at the Tate Modern in London this past week, we sort of have a new appreciation for a good skull. Kelly Lamb's Skull Chandelier, although a tad gaudy and a bit of a tough sell for our dining room, we definitely like the composition of it.

We like a bit of lowbrow aesthetic invading the fashion world, and although we would not tote a gun-toting tote, we like what Vlieger and Vandam has done with their collection of handbags, iPad cases, and clutches. They have added embossed guns, knives, and handcuffs. Because you want to appear as tough as can be.

A stunning series by Carsten Witte, where he takes models, some of them nude (hence the NSFW thing) and paints a light, almost illusionary skull piece on top of their face. Says Witte, "One main idea behind my work is the belief that everything is constantly changing but photography can preserve the moment. Beauty is almost nothing without the knowledge of how fast it will fade..."

We know, besides that big Mr Brainwash show in Los Angeles this week, things are slowing down in the art world until 2012. So in honor of slowness, in honor of brainwashes, we give you the elegant Clown Skull by Vik Muniz. The joke is on... not sure who, but someone.

It is a certain web editors birthday today, and to celebrate, the Juxtapoz office was thinking this incredible shotglass would be an apt way to celebrate. The creation of the Crystal Skull Shotglass is a key ingredient to your fun. A holiday must-have.

These are only appropriate for month a year; October. Halloween. Sure, you can serve your skull shaped sugar "cubes" in July, but it just won't have the same effect that it has right about this time of year. We just found the maker's Etsy page, and we endorse using these with your tea while reading your Pushead issue.

There is something that seems very regal and delicate about constructing a human skull out of ostrich eggs. Seems rather poetic in terms of the delicate charcteristic as well. And, on a more superficial level, Christian Gonzenbach's series, Homo ab ovo, is just interesting to look at.
