On the occasion of the Art Tattoo Show convention, as Montreal becomes the international destination for tattoo artists and enthusiasts, three artists with prominent presence in the tattoo world will highlight the fine art side of the subculture. From Montreal, Los Angeles, and San Francisco respectively, Jean Labourdette, Shawn Barber, and Mike Davis have joined forces to present TROÏKA at Yves LaRoche Gallery, an exhibit of paintings and mixed-media sculptures that explores how tattoo imagery has influenced fine art and vice versa.

One of our favorite sites, Empty Kingdom, has teamed up with Select Fair this year to bring several great artists to Art Basel in Miami. Lucien Shapiro (featured in our December 2013 issue), Andreas Englund, Amanda Elizabeth Joseph, Erin Riley (news soon!), Scott Hove, and Shawn Barber make up the list of artists that Empty Kingdom chose! The EK/SELECT exhibition will be held in the famous South Beach area at the Catalina Hotel in Miami, Florida, where they’ll be carrying out a complete art take over! Tonight, June 28, in NYC, Shawn Barber is opening a new exhibition, Memoir: The Tattooed Portraits Series, at Joshua Liner Gallery, part of his ongoing series of tattooed portraits of both the culture and its most revered talents, including portraits of Don Ed Hardy, Kim Saigh, Stanley Moskowitz, Grime, Henry Lewis, and Adrian Lee. In conjunction with the opening, Barber is also releasing a book of the same name, the third volume of Barber documenting tattoo culture.

Los Angeles-based fine artist and tattooist Shawn Barber is set to open a new body of work, Memoir: The Tattooed Portraits Series, at Joshua Liner Gallery in NYC on Thursday, June 28. The exhibition comes in conjunction with Barber's new book of the same name, a documentation behind the scenes and into the personalities of contemporary tattoo.

The assistant director for Joshua Liner Gallery, Tim Strazza, was recently diagnosed with MS. A group of artists have come together and donated work to be auctioned off to help cover his medical costs. Tonight, July 28th from 7-10 pm at Joshua Liner Gallery in NYC, head over and donate and get some great pieces for a great cause.
