35 years ago, the Japanese company Sanrio first introduced Hello Kitty to the United States. The move marked the birth of a global character icon that was unprecedented at the time, and whose reach has yet to be matched.

Giant Robot LA announces a special in-store appearance by artist and designer Simone Legno of Tokidoki going down from 6-8pm today, Wednesday, July 30th. Since relocating from Rome to Los Angeles, Legno's anime-infected art has truly exploded in the pop culture and street wear consciousness. Not only does his stylish, sophisticated, and cute art appear on the highly visible line of handbags for Le Sportsac, but it has also received the seal of approval from the unofficial artibors of Japanese pop, Sanrio (in the form of limited-edition Hello Kitty jewelry) and Medicom (BE@RBRICKS.) Legno's latest project is a special collaboration with Mikasa to make a FIFA-regulation soccer ball, which he will be signing at GR2.
