San Francisco-based Hilary Pecis, who we featured in our May 2011 issue, has a new exhibition, In Accordance, up at Halsey McKay Gallery in East Hampton through July 17. We have championed Pecis' work in the past because we feel it represents a traditional painters embrace of new media and technology, as she researches and culls hundreds of Internet images on a particular concept and creates a canvas based on those findings.

We get a chance to visit with Jeremy Fish every so-often, and generally it is on the occasion of a new exhibition or body of work being built. What we enjoy the most about visiting Fish in his SF North Beach studio is that whatever research or preparation he has compiled while making the work, the remnants are evident throughout his space...

Our good friend and 2x cover artist, Jeremy Fish (who did a nice logo shirt for us this past year), is set to open a new body of work, Where Hearts Get Left, at San Francisco's FIFTY24SF Gallery. Showing at Upper Playground's FIFTY24SF for the first time in 5 years, the exhibition features 60+ new works and is inspired by and created as a visual love letter to the city of San Francisco. Hey, we live in San Francisco!

Tomorrow, in the small Northern California coastal town of Bolinas, Don Ed Hardy will have an exhibition open at the Bolinas Museum, The Art of Don Ed Hardy Including, But Not Limited To. We have attended shows at the Bolinas Museum, including Barry McGee and Clare Rojas, and the curation continues to be excellent in the artistically conscious but secluded town.

I'm not sure what to say about the work of Oakland, CA based Michael Olivo, but I like it. He creates these hideously vibrant messes of color and form, sometimes resembling epic wrestling matches with alien creatures stricken with some life-eating skin mutations. They're rich, exciting, and well, I can't say that I am not automatically attracted to them, in some strange way...

Artist Leo Villareal wants to light up the Bay Bridge and we hope this becomes a reality. He has proposed ad LED light installation consisting of 25,000 white LEDs, spaced a foot apart for the west span of the bridge. The lights will have the function of changing, making abstract patterns based loosely on water, traffic, and weather patterns.
