.T.F.R. Gallery presents Fiction Alters Form, featuring artists Joshua Miller, Matt Rich, and Joe Yorty. In selecting Matt Rich and Joe Yorty for the exhibition, Joshua Miller (who we asked to choose work to be put in relation to his) wanted to consider the ways in which symmetries of form gave way to asymmetries of intention. Formally, all three artists conflate expectations of two and three dimensional space, painting and sculpture, surface and volume. However, beyond those formal congruencies, the material choices, vantage point, and intention of each artist diverges.

We are almost, so close, to the dawning of Spring, and we think its good timing for a new album from San Diego band Wavves. The album title, Afraid of Heights, also has a track by the same name, and a video of lo-fi, Super 8, drag queen night out... and what we call Wednesday.

Opening this Thursday evening at 6 pm in San Diego is a great show by the young, emerging LA-based artist Christina Tsui, featuring new drawings and photography curated by Max Karnig.. Be sure to swing by and check out her new drawings at the reception.

Juan Chavarria Jr. is an all-around creative based in San Diego, California who specializes in typography, illustration, web and graphic design. “I read a lot of mythology, or tragic stories online. If I read something I could translate into an illustration, I instantly brainstorm in my Moleskin with a Staedtler pencil, or sometimes a Sharpie pen..."

Andy Ralph is a San Diego-based artist that also sings in the band Writer. We first encountered his lawn chair sculptures in the Musuem of Contemporary Art, San Diego at their La Jolla location. In the gallery space that overlooks the surrounding reefs, coves, and beaches, these lawn chairs seemed perfectly placed in the grotesquely affluent and perfectly scenic coast side of La Jolla.

Airports are busy, but rarely do we get an idea of just how many flights come in and out of a given airport over a short period of time. Cy Kuckenbaker captured 5 hours of air landings at San Diego airport, and condensed it into just a short 25 seconds. The flights took place between 10:30am and 3pm.

Dragon presents #loosebehavior, an art exhibition opening Friday, November 16 at T.F.R. Gallery in Lucadia, California. The show will feature new artworks by Schoph, Taylor Reeve and Mr. Dvice. We would not be the first to note that Kelsey Brookes' artistic career did not follow the most traditional path. While attending university, he studied biology instead of painting and drawing, and not until practicing as a microbiologist for a few years and moving to San Diego did Brookes begin his career as a painter.

Opening Saturday evening , November 10, at Space 4 Art is a three-person show titled Jamais Vu, featuring one of our favorite San Diego-based painters Ernest Silva as well as Los Angeles based artists Michelle Carla Handel and Michael Arata. If you are not already familiar, Space 4 Art is an emerging art venue in San Diego that functions as a collective of studios as well as an exhibition space.
