Allison Miller, painter and professor at UC San Diego, recently showed me a film about Yayoi Kusama, following her around her studio and attempting to get a glimpse into her odd world and unusual artistic practice. Kusama has been producing work for over 50 years and all of it is very strange and very beautiful.

San Diego designer, photographer, and director Charles Bergquist combines elements of design and photography to create rich and layered work. In his "Everyday" project, he simply states, "I'm trying to create something new everyday and see how long it will last."

Earlier this month, Death Ships Don't Surf, a solo show by Gretchen Mercedes opened up at Double Break, the new gallery and art book store in San Diego. As we mentioned before, the store looks great (very much like San Diego's own Parklife), and the show is an interesting take on Mercedes' film work.

Juxtapoz teamed up with Aaron Brothers stores to kicked off the first national Artrageous Urban Art Event in San Diego. Artists Ces, Revok, Risk, Sever, and Wane created a live mural and work for fans and the general public.

Double Break is a new space recently opened in June by UC San Diego MFA graduates Louis Schmidt and Matt Coors. The art and design book store and gallery had a show with Jay Howell and Chris Kardambikis that runs until August 28, 2011.
